How to receive up to €500 per month in commuting allowances in the Netherlands
Many Russian-speaking immigrants in the Netherlands receive an extra €300–500 each month simply because they live far from work. This is calledreiskostenvergoeding. It still applies in 2026.
What is reiskostenvergoeding?
It is a tax relief and employer reimbursement for commuting between home and work. There are two types in the Netherlands:
- Belastingvrije vergoeding— up to €0.23 per kilometre (tax-free)
- Werkkostenregeling (WKR)— higher payments may be offered
How much can you actually receive?
| Distance (km, one way) | Monthly reimbursement |
|---|---|
| 20 km | ≈ 190–210 € |
| 30 km | ≈ 290–320 € |
| 40 km | ≈ 380–420 € |
| 50 km | ≈ 480–520 € |
The main requirement is official BRP address registration
The distance is calculated from your registered address. Without BRP registration, or if you register at your workplace, you will not receive reimbursement.
Step-by-step guide

- Request an uittreksel over inschrijfadres
